SALT LAKE- Toronto FC were held to a goal-less draw in Utah after a lacklustre opening day game against Real Salt Lake.

Toronto kept the same starting eleven from MLS Cup in December, and Rusnak made his RSL debut in the midfield.

It was a good start for Toronto, keeping possession and pressuring the RSL back line very well. RSL found it tough to get out of their own half in the early stages and Jozy had a good chance to chip the goalie, but Rimando made a good save.

Minutes after Jozy’s chance, he had a really good opportunity to give TFC the lead but his shot went just wide of the left corner.

Toronto were given a penalty after RImando took down Giovinco and was given a yellow card in the aftermath. Giovinco was denied the goal after he failed to convert the penalty.

The second half was pretty dull, not many opportunities for both sides. Victor Vazquez made his TFC debut and showed signs of quality and creativity.

In the latter stages of the game it was becoming stretched and playing at a high altitude so early on, Greg Vanney was happy to come away with a point.

Toronto FC will be on the road again next weekend when they visit the Talen Energy Stadium to face the Philadelphia Union. Kick off will be at 4:30pm EST.
