HARRISON, NJ- New York Red Bulls host the Supporters Shield champions Toronto FC tonight at Red Bull Arena in the Eastern Conference semi-final first leg.
The Red Bulls played last Wednesday in a knockout game in Chicago where they put aside the Fire in a 4-0 win to reach the conference semi-finals.
Toronto FC clinched first in the conference and therefore went straight into the semi final round.
The two sides have met twice this season, in May they tied 1-1 in New Jersey and TFC defeated the Red Bulls just a month ago to clinch the league title in a thrilling 4-2 win at BMO Field.
New York are going to need a result tonight before going up north to face TFC, so expect lots of high pressing from the hosts as they’ll look to make the TFC defence uncomfortable.
Sascha Kljestan has 17 assists this season while Victor Vazquez has 16, so a battle in the midfield will be key to who comes out on top.
The attack of each team is also very deadly. Bradley Wright-Phillips has 18 goals this season and Daniel Royer has 13, while for TFC Sebastian Giovinco has 16 goals and Jozy Altidore has 15.
The Red Bulls will be without Gideon Baah, Mike Grella and Aurelien Collin who are out until next season. TFC have no injuries and suspensions and will be at full strength.
After last seasons disappointment, Toronto will be full of hunger to get their revenge, and that starts tonight.
Kick off is at 7:30pm EST and will be televised on TSN 4.
